Ed Roth

Fink Big:

Big-Daddy Roth and the Anti-Mascot

Ed Roth and his Rat Fink are a rare breed indeed. In an environment ripe for exploitation, Mr. Roth turned his knack for caricatures in to a means to support his trade: customizing cars.

Though his art may have (oddly enough) begun as a way in which to support his love for a newly emerging tradeskill, it was his skewering of the Disney saturated pop culture of the 60's that led to his greatest triumph as an artist,:the ever-lovable "ratfink" taken from the inversely saccarine Mickey Mouse.

Lines of sweatshirsts, buildable car models and even a record of pop songs all delivered the same message to consumers: don't buy in to the corporate mascot

Through a dedicated collector on the American West Coast, the Humboldt is happy to present a series of Mr. Roth's original prints and memorobilia.

Contact the Humboldt for pricing.

General Idea

GI:

That's the Idea

Formed in the early 60's, three friends in art formed a performance/print/art collective and named themselves General Idea. The Humboldt has been lucky enough to receive three of the original coat of arms from the Miss General Idea Pavillion, a rare treat as only 12 of the original 24 survived the fire in the armory just days before the Pagaent.

Please explore General Idea's contributions to the art world, real and imagined here at the Humboldt and at websites across the globe.

One of their greatest achievements as a collective has been the founding of Art Metropole, to which the Humboldt offers it's full support. Visit them for all of your art book and art multiple needs.

Elyse Longair

Ms. Longair has only to let her images speak for themselves.

Everett Wong

Everett's portraiture of famous celebrities has somehow compelled pop culture to scrutinize itself more closely. Mr. Wong leads the cutting edge of "Paparrazzi Portraiture" capturing celebrities in compromising moments with his photographic memory and flawless rendering skills.

Everett has undoubtedly influenced media photographers and contemporary artists with his scathing commentary of idolization and in doing so, has become a sort of pop icon himself.

Antony Summanus

Summanus' mostly performance-based pieces are an exploration of the concept of "traditional" values that rule our normative social behaviours. He utilizes the more traditional forms of fine art as well as video and text-based works to confront his own dealings with these restrictions.

This selection of stills from his performance piece "tumble.dry" are pulled both from performances in the UK and in the US.

Vespa

Vespa's black and white photo series deals primarily in the experiences of disconnect in a starkly realized landscape, not altogether devoid of a sense of whimsy.

Her sculpture "D6" is on exhibit with a selection from her series "Narrative"
