Thanks goes out to the fire department who was so quick to respond to our sudden flash flood in the space during load out. We are glad to report that there was no serious damage to the collection however the Humboldt will have to close down for a few days in order for us to create some sense of order.

Our seminar on digital rights and appropriation that was set on january 12th has been moved to Jilho's Greek Taverna which shares the same block as the gallery.

Thanks to our great contributors for Mr Roth's opening, we had a special guest in our audience. Please look for her review in the upcoming Art in America where the Humboldt has a feature role as collector, and some pieces from our archive are opened for their first viewings.

Join us at the Humboldt Gallery on November 5th for a special guest: Ed Roth's famous Orbitron!

After years sitting in the parking lot of a Mexican adult novelty store, the Orbitron has been restored by a friend of the gallery who is kind enough to let it out of hiding for a premier at FINK BIG.

Orbitron

Ed Roth's pioneering work with fiberglass and hot-molded plastic is the quintessential art car.

Build your own model version to Ed Roth's specs with the 1/16th scalemodel version which will be available opening night, free after six beverage purchases.

Fink Big is coming to fruition, look out for Big Daddy Roth's show coming soon to the Humboldt Gallery.

Rat Fink Certificate

After a meeting with our local Fink Fan Club president we are proud to announce that during the opening we will be holding Rat Finkā„¢ certified fan club meeting, where authorized member Steve Peskura will be making those in attendance honourary Rat Fink Fan Club members!

We are making way for our retrospective on Ed Roth's work scheduled to open early December, and our General Idea retrospective has been scaled down to our Media Room's presentation of "Shut the Fuck Up."

Due to a few complaints, the noise level has now been turned down to accommodate those who may have felt that it was inappropriately loud.

We would like to thank our contributor Michael Morris of the Morris/Trasov archive in retrieving the video for use in the Humboldt's virgin Media Room. This video piece was thought lost before being recovered from a pile of rags in the rear of the Western Front of Vancouver after a number of floorboards were pried free during a remodeling of the north wing.

Oct.31.2009

In an exciting piece of news, negotiations with AA Bronson and some archival help from Michael Morris has brought in to our possession some pieces from Canada's General Idea.

We will be exhibiting some of the original coats of arms that survived the terrible fire of the Miss General Idea Pageant of 1988.

Look for their pieces early November, and come visit our newly installed Media Room. Please excuse our lack of benches, our seating permit for greater than four viewers in one gathering has yet to be granted.

Our Squid Store is now open!

Please join us in welcoming our new member of the Humboldt Gallery, our very own Humboldt Squid. He will be representing us in the material realm.

If you have received an envelope with a squid on it, please do not take that invitation lightly. We are interested in hosting a show with artists from all over the world, and are always probing for new ideas and fresh blood for our floor.

Know that our doors are always open to those with a strong body of work and a drive to display. If you know someone worthy of the Squid's attention, please enclose your submission in the printable envelopes below.

The Humboldt Gallery is proud to announce plans to create a media space after absorbing the area next to the gallery floor itself (formerly from the Banana Republic chain of clothing stores)

After we have scoured the retail environment clean, we are hoping to have our large format screen installed and ready to dazzle by late 2009.

PS. Large amounts of inventory were left from the former owners of the retail space, please feel free to scrounge for any unwanted inventory. It will be out back next to the Curl Up and Dye hair salon.

Our opening was a wild success with the help of all involved. Special thanks go out to our special guest presenters Piplotti Rist and Jeff Wall.

The Humboldt is committed to bringing you contemporary excellence in all of our upcoming shows, whether they be cutting-edge visual art explorations or a tribute to some of the most influential artists of the past 50 years.

In the realm of visual culture the Humboldt believes that exposure is key.
